Rufus Hound and Susie Blake will lead the cast of The Other Side of Murder, a new thriller by Torben Betts, as it embarks on a UK and Ireland tour starting this September. The play marks a continuation of Betts’s exploration of crime drama following his previous works Murder at Midnight and Murder in the Dark.

The Other Side of Murder centres on TV medium Darius Divine, whose attempt to enjoy a quiet family dinner is disrupted by sinister ghostly visitations and unexpected revelations. Directed by Philip Franks, the production also features design by Colin Falconer, lighting design by Jason Taylor, and sound design and composition by Max Pappenheim.

The cast is led by Rufus Hound and Susie Blake, with casting by Emma Sylvester. The new thriller is presented by Original Theatre in association with Theatr Clwyd and opens at Theatr Clwyd, Mold, on 4 September, running until 12 September.

Following its launch, the tour continues across regional venues including Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford, New Theatre in Cardiff, Devonshire Park Theatre in Eastbourne, and The Gaiety Theatre in Dublin, among others. The tour will extend into early 2027 with scheduled dates at Wycombe Swan, Derby Theatre, Royal and Derngate Northampton, and Darlington Hippodrome, with more venues to be confirmed.

This latest play positions Betts within a niche of atmospheric thriller drama, building on the darker themes established in his previous murder mysteries, while bringing a spectral element to the narrative.

The involvement of high-profile performers such as Hound and Blake ensures a notable draw for audiences alongside the experienced creative team helmed by Franks.

The ongoing tour across a wide range of provincial theatres highlights the continued appeal and demand for new British thrillers outside London’s West End.
