The award-winning 2024 staging of Starlight Express at London’s Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre will embark on a world tour starting in May 2027. Producer Michael Harrison has revealed the initial dates and venues, signalling a major new chapter for the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.

Starlight Express, which reopened in June 2024 with a fresh production directed by Luke Sheppard, is set to launch a world tour beginning at Curve theatre on 9 May 2027. The show previously earned a record seven WhatsOnStage Awards, underscoring its enduring appeal.

Producer Michael Harrison expressed enthusiasm about the tour, highlighting Andrew Lloyd Webber’s score and the production’s “unique sense of spectacle, exhilaration and heart” as key draws. The new staging features Tim Hatley’s dynamic set design, which builds upon the elements audiences loved in the London run.

The musical’s score is by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, including well-known songs such as “AC/DC”, “Make Up My Heart”, “Light at the End of the Tunnel” and the titular “Starlight Express”.

The creative team for the 2024 production consists of director Luke Sheppard, designer Tim Hatley, costume designer Gabriella Slade, lighting designer Howard Hudson, and sound designer Gareth Owen. New orchestrations are by Matthew Brind in collaboration with Lloyd Webber, with music supervision by Brind and David Andrew Wilson.

Choreography is by Ashley Nottingham, and Arlene Phillips serves as creative dramaturg. Casting details have yet to be announced.

Further UK tour dates have been revealed on the production’s dedicated page, while additional information about Canadian and Australian tour stops will be shared at a later date. The staging promises a theatrical event that will “pull into a station near you,” according to Harrison.
