Originally written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, Les Misérables is based on Victor Hugo’s novel. The production at the Sondheim Theatre incorporates orchestrations by Stephen Metcalfe, Christopher Jahnke, and Stephen Brooker, building on John Cameron’s original arrangements.
Direction is led by James Powell and Laurence Connor, with design work by Matt Kinley inspired by Hugo’s paintings. Costume design credits go to Andreane Neofitou, Christine Rowland, and Paul Wills, supported by lighting from Paule Constable and sound by Mick Potter.
Projection effects are realised by Finn Ross and Fifty Nine Productions, with musical staging by Geoffrey Garratt and music supervision by Stephen Brooker and Alfonso Casado Trigo. The lyrics combine the work of Herbert Kretzmer and original French texts by Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, with additional material and adaptations by James Fenton, Trevor Nunn, and John Caird.
The production recently extended its West End run until March 2027, with tickets now available for this enduringly popular staging.
