The Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh has announced its 2026/27 season, featuring major productions like The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and George Orwell’s 1984. The programme highlights a mix of classic adaptations, musicals, and visiting shows, promising a diverse theatrical line-up.

The Royal Lyceum Theatre’s 2026/27 season opens with The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, running from 2 to 18 October 2026. The play is adapted by David Harrower and directed by Vicky Featherstone, with Gayle Rankin starring in the title role.

Following that, a new adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984, adapted by Chris Hannan, runs from 27 October to 7 November 2026. The theatre’s traditional Christmas production, A Christmas Carol, returns from 28 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, directed by artistic director James Brining.

Romeo and Juliet will take the stage from 30 January to 27 February 2027 in a co-production with English Touring Theatre, Leeds Playhouse, and Nottingham Playhouse. Chelsea Walker directs this production.

The spring musical is Guys and Dolls, running from 26 March to 1 May 2027, also under James Brining’s direction. It is noted that this production will tour as well. The main-house season concludes with Mother Courage and her Children, adapted and directed by Zinnie Harris, from 28 May to 19 June 2027.

Alongside these productions, the Lyceum will host visiting shows including The Tailor of Inverness, Private Peaceful, The Haunting of Hill House, and Tristan & Yseult. Family-oriented performances such as Zog, The Gruffalo, and Zog and the Flying Doctors are also included.

The season incorporates stand-up comedy performances by Sindhu Vee, Neil Delamere, and Christopher Macarthur-Boyd, adding variety to the theatre’s offering.

This eclectic season underscores the Lyceum’s ongoing commitment to presenting a mix of classic plays, adaptations, musicals, and touring shows in Edinburgh’s vibrant theatre scene.
